I am an interdisciplinary scholar working at the intersection of economics of innovation, international business, economic geography, professor at the Department of Society, Politics and Sustainability at ESADE Business School. In my research I study the management of innovation for the environment and of the tensions emerging especially within the context of internationalization.

Research

I am interested in the study of environmental innovations and the circular economy and on tensions for sustainability and environmental upgrading in the context of Global Value Chains. I have extensively studies local development in Industrial Districts. I have published more than 60 peer reviewed articles and received severa, awards.

Teaching and learning

I am experienced in teaching at bachelor, master and MBA levels and developed courses on sustainable global value chains; international business, science of sustainability, environmental sustainability; strategies for the circular economy.

I enjoy teaching in a active learning and student-centered manner and I have developed a Podcast that share some of the experiences developed within the Teaching4Learning project. 

International footprint

I have been visiting at the Center on Globalization, Governance and Competitiveness (Duke University, 2007, 2010) at the Department of Innovation and Organisational Economics (Copenhagen Business School, 2009), at the Department of Business Administration and Marketing (Universitat Jaume I, 2016), at the Center for Frugal Innovation in Africa, Erasmus University (NL, 2019).

I won the Governing Responsible Business Research Fellowship at the Copenhagen Business School (DK, 2019) and the Hallsworth Fellowhip at Global Development Institute, University of Manchester (UK, 2022).

Service

I truly believe in the relevance to engage in service activities to support the development of the academic community. I am National Representative of the European International Business Academy (EIBA), have been President of the GRONEN network (2020-22), and Member of Organizing Committee, Network O – Global Value Chains (SASE conference) (2018-22).

I am deputy editor of J. of International Business Policy (2024-2027), Associate Editor at J. of Industrial and Business Economics (since 2021-2023), and of the book series Development Trajectories in Global Value Chains (Cambridge University Press) and in the reviewer board at J. of International Business Studies, and Organization & Environment. I act as reviewer for several international journals (here my publons page). 

Outreach

I enjoy sharing what I have learnt in talks and public events. I have registered a TedX, and give regularly talks on how Small and Medium Size Enterprise can reduce their environmental impacts, on the challenges and opportunities to develop environmental innovation
